Settlement „Am hohen Ufer“, sports field and village community centre

From 1962 to 64, the Gemeinnützige Siedlungsgesellschaft für das Rheinische Braunkohle Revier (GSG) (non-profit housing association for the Rhenish lignite mining area) built on the site, which had lain fallow until then. The plan was to build 37 houses, or 62 flats.

After the old sports field on Unterstraße had to give way, the new field below the Schälmühle was officially opened on 11 August 1963 with a game of the 1st team.

The photos show the beginning of the construction.

The players at that time were (from left to right): Hermann Fritzen, Helmut Winkler, Heinz Vogel, Wendelin Rahe, Leo Fuhs, Peter Lockemann, Heinz-Adolf Gaschka, Hubert Kaldenbach, Heinz Vogel („Prinz“), Matthias Offergeld and Franz Dahmen.

After plans were made in 1968 to create shower facilities and toilets for the football players, but also a training and meeting place for young people and the various local clubs, or a place for private parties, a „village community centre“ was planned, which was officially inaugurated on 4 July.
Due to structural deficiencies, active operation was discontinued years ago.

In 2018, the pitch was cleared. Single-family houses are to be built on it.
